World Oceans Day Commemoration: Restoring Mangroves and Coral Reefs on Kelapa Island
To commemorate World Oceans Day, YIIM, Insight, and coastal partners planted 1,000 mangrove seedlings and transplanted coral reef fragments in Seribu Islands.

Commemorating World Oceans Day, the Indonesian Inspiration Building Foundation (YIIM) together with PT Insight Investments Management and the Kelapa Tunggal Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) conducted an integrated Marine Ecosystem Restoration on Kelapa Island, Kepulauan Seribu National Park.
The environmental action tackled coastal erosion and marine habitat degradation by planting 1,000 mangrove seedlings along degraded shorelines and transplanting dozens of healthy coral reef fragments onto artificial reef structures submerged in surrounding shallow waters.
The event also featured coastal clean-up activities collecting marine plastic debris, accompanied by interactive environmental education sessions for island youth on the crucial role of coral reefs and mangrove forests in sustaining fisheries and buffering against sea level rise.
National Park officers and island leaders praised the long-term conservation partnership, highlighting that healthy marine ecosystems directly protect local fishermen’s livelihoods and sustain eco-tourism.
This initiative advances SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 14: Life Below Water, SDG 15: Life on Land, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
Inspiration Greetings!
