AHMAD HUDA DIMYATI (24 years old), or usually called Huda, is one of the alumni of the AC service and cleaning training in 2020 organized by Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) together with PT Insight Investments Management (INSIGHT). Huda is a young man from East Java who has lived with his grandmother and father since childhood. Currently, Huda has been living for a year in a rented house in the Jatimurni sub-district, Melati district, Bekasi City.

This program is a manifestation of INSIGHT’s commitment to partnering with YIIM to transform investment into social impact. In addition, this program is also aligned with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG No. 1 on ending poverty and SDG No. 2 on ending hunger.

Wandering to Various Cities

Since the age of 17, Huda has wandered alone, starting from Merauke to his last destination, Jakarta. When he left home, all of his family members migrated to Merauke and Jakarta. During his time in Jakarta, Huda lived at his older sibling’s house in the Pasar Minggu area. While wandering, Huda worked odd jobs. He did all sorts of work to support himself, from selling tahu gejrot to working as a dishwasher at the Kota Kasablanka mall. Huda’s first income was only enough to eat the next day and to pay his rent.

Beginning a Career as an AC Technician

Huda’s initial entry into the world of AC technicians began when he joined the AC cleaning training held by YIIM and INSIGHT in 2020. At that time, Huda was almost giving up on finding work. He then read information on YIIM’s Instagram announcing that YIIM was conducting an AC cleaning training. Finally, Huda decided to register himself to join the training.

Not long after, Huda received a call and attended the training for 3-4 sessions. After the training was completed, Huda received a certificate and submitted a business assistance proposal. He then received business assistance in the form of AC cleaning equipment. He was very grateful that with the assistance of these business tools, he could start his own AC cleaning service business.

After the training, Huda started his own business for 6 months. Not only ACs, Huda could also repair refrigerators, washing machines, and water dispensers. However, this business failed due to a lack of orders and a small brand name.

“Around a year ago, I started my own business and failed. Only 6 months I ran the business. Months 1-2 were okay, month 3 was just enough, months 4-6 were at a loss. Orders… service businesses need a name and customers. If you don’t have a name yet, it’s also hard. Marketing only relied on jobs from friends and Google Ads.”

Moving On to Work at an AC Technician Company

After his business failed, Huda finally tried to apply at a company in the AC field in the Grogol area, and he worked there for 3 months. Huda’s initial income when working there was Rp2,000,000 per month. When he got a job at an AC technician services company, Huda was very grateful.

“It felt like despair while surviving in Jakarta. The survival spirit must be huge. In Jakarta, we won’t find it hard if we have skills. After being accepted, at the first meeting I felt that this was my passion because I like tinkering with things.”

Not long after working at that company, Huda moved several times to other companies and ended up working at the company he currently occupies, PT. ADI PUTRA JAYA TEKNIK in the Depok area. He has been working at that company for around 8-10 months. Huda’s work coverage area is Greater Jakarta (JABODETABEK). On average, he works on private houses, apartments, and offices. Huda’s current income is starting to increase, estimated at around Rp6,000,000 to Rp8,000,000 per month.

In the future, Huda wants to learn more deeply about central AC / building AC systems and hopes to have his own business and a spare parts store.

“My career started at YIIM, and YIIM has been very instrumental for me. I hope that with YIIM’s development, it can be beneficial for today’s generation and advance the economy.”
