As a concrete effort to realize the values of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) numbers 1, 2, 8, 10, 16 and 17, cooperation between the government and all stakeholders is necessary.

This is what the Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun (YIIM) did together with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (LPSK RI) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through barista and frozen food entrepreneurship training held on 9-11 December 2021 at the LPSK Office. The barista and frozen food entrepreneurship training serves as a psychosocial effort to provide strengthening, recovery, and empowerment for survivors and protected persons of terrorism under the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

Since 2018, YIIM, supported by PT Insight Investments Management, has conducted various entrepreneurship trainings, and one of its flagship programs is barista training. The barista training program conducted by YIIM and INSIGHT has produced alumni who have either started their own businesses or are working in coffee shops. Alumni of the barista training have started their own coffee shop businesses and some have become baristas at quite well-known cafes, thus creating economic and welfare impacts for the alumni.

In addition to becoming baristas, several alumni of the YIIM and INSIGHT barista training have become training mentors with the capacity and capability to train and assist coffee barista training participants in every new generation and batch. These barista alumni have been trusted by state institutions and international institutions to train people from economically vulnerable pre-prosperous backgrounds and socially disadvantaged communities. Such is the case with the barista training organized by YIIM, LPSK, and UNODC for survivors who are, in essence, victims and families of victims of terrorism crimes.

The spirit of this training is part of a social re-integration effort, namely to return survivors to their social environment equipped with skills and entrepreneurial knowledge so they can start new MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises).

On Friday, January 21, 2022, a barista internship commenced for three selected participants from various regions in Indonesia. The barista internship will take place for two weeks from January 21, 2022, to February 3, 2022, at Kopi Inspirasi. The opening ceremony of the internship was attended directly by the Vice Chairperson of LPSK RI, Mrs. Susilaningtias, S.H., M.H.

The event was officially opened with a speech by Mrs. Susilaningtias, who said, “Congratulations to the selected participants who have passed to join the barista internship in Jakarta today. May you all make the best use of this barista internship opportunity until it is completed, and do not hesitate to ask the mentors anything. This barista training and internship is a form of support from LPSK, together with YIIM and UNODC, for survivors of victims of terrorism crimes. May this training be beneficial for you all to become independent entrepreneurs and thus help your families at home.”

During the barista internship, participants will be mentored by barista alumni and also business assistance recipients of YIIM and INSIGHT. The alumni who serve as mentors are Humam Hasan, a former client of the Central Jakarta Correctional Center (Balai Pemasyarakatan Jakarta Pusat), and Fransisca Natalia P.S., who is independent and owns coffee shops in the Cibinong and Cibubur areas.

The Yayasan Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun, with the support of partners and donors such as PT Insight Investments Management, remains committed to building the nation through community empowerment to achieve family economic independence through entrepreneurship. This aligns with the goals of the SDGs that the government has set forth in Presidential Regulation Number 59 of 2017 concerning the Implementation of the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
