The Indonesian Inspiring Building Foundation (YIIM) once again contributed to realizing the spirit of social entrepreneurship for the people of Indonesia. This time, YIIM, in collaboration with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (LPSK-RI) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), provided business equipment assistance to survivors under LPSK’s protection on February 18, 2022.

This assistance serves as a form of care from YIIM, LPSK, and UNODC for survivors to be able to start their own businesses after previously participating in a social entrepreneurship training program for barista skills and frozen food cooking as training participants. Previously, YIIM also organized an internship program for selected barista participants for 2 weeks from January 21 to February 3, 2022.

This business equipment assistance was provided to six selected survivors who had previously participated in social entrepreneurship training and were deemed serious about starting and developing their businesses, based on the assessment and selection conducted by YIIM, LPSK, and UNODC.

These six survivors under LPSK’s protection consisted of three barista participants: Vivi Normasari from Purwakarta, Ni Wayan Ani from Bali, and Mufti Ahbal from Sidoarjo, who each received business equipment to sell and start their own coffee shops.

Meanwhile, three frozen food cooking participants—I Ketut Suartana, Tumini Tuban, and Ni Kadek Ardani, all from Bali—received cooking business equipment assistance to sell various frozen food specialties, whether as home-based businesses or as warung (food stalls) or snack businesses such as crispy fried chicken, frozen solo sausage, fried banana nuggets, etc.

The handover ceremony for this assistance was held at the residence of one of the survivors in Denpasar City, Bali. The event was attended by YIIM staff representative Humam Hasan, Chair of LPSK-RI Hasto Atmojo Suroyo, and UNODC Country Manager Collie F. Brown.

On that occasion, Mr. Hasto, as Chair of LPSK RI, expressed his appreciation to YIIM and UNODC for successfully organizing this social entrepreneurship program for LPSK survivors and for jointly supporting LPSK’s efforts in fulfilling the rehabilitation and psychosocial needs of victims.

Mr. Hasto stated, “I would like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to YIIM and UNODC for their cooperation in this social entrepreneurship program for our protected citizens, from training, internships, to business equipment assistance. Many of these victims have suffered greatly, which has devastated their social and economic lives. Therefore, they need the spirit of economic independence to be able to carry out social activities normally with an improved quality of life. This rehabilitation and psychosocial program cannot be carried out by us alone and requires support from caring parties.”

During the event, UNODC Country Manager Collie F. Brown in his remarks expressed gratitude to YIIM and LPSK-RI for the series of social entrepreneurship programs that have gone well to advance LPSK’s protected survivors. Collie Brown stated, “We are delighted with our cooperation with YIIM and LPSK-RI in this social entrepreneurship program. We hope that the spirit of LPSK’s survivors and protected citizens to become independent entrepreneurs will continue with the provision of business equipment assistance to protected citizens, and this serves as an inspiration for other communities.”

YIIM staff member Humam Hasan also stated, “On behalf of YIIM, I would like to thank LPSK and UNODC for their cooperation in this program. This business equipment assistance can at least become a new hope and beginning for survivors to start entrepreneurship independently.”

During the event, two representatives of LPSK’s protected survivors were present to receive the business equipment assistance. Mrs. Tumini Tuban (from the Frozen Food cooking participant group) stated, “I am very happy to receive this business equipment assistance, so that my food business can run more smoothly in the future. Thank you, YIIM, LPSK, and UNODC.” Then, Mrs. Ni Wayan Ani (from the barista participant group) also stated, “Thank you, LPSK, YIIM, and UNODC for this business equipment assistance. I will use this assistance as well as possible for my coffee business.”

This business equipment assistance is part of the social entrepreneurship spirit that YIIM has been running since 2018. YIIM, together with partners and donors such as PT. Insight Investments Management, mutually supports and runs this program because it is aligned and in harmony with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) numbers 1, 2, 8, 10, and 17, which have been proclaimed by the government as Presidential Regulation Number 59 of 2017 concerning the Implementation of the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
