On 23, 24, and 25 November 2020, the Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun Foundation (YIIM) received support from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) and the Bali Provincial Government to organize entrepreneurship training for victims of terrorism and other crimes.

This program is part of a series of collaborations organized by YIIM and LPSK, previously held at the LPSK office in Jakarta with Barista Coffee training and in Yogyakarta for victims with Urban Farming training.

The victims are protected beneficiaries under LPSK. This program is part of the psychosocial recovery program for victims of crimes under LPSK protection, as mandated in the provisions of Law Number 31 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law Number 13 of 2006 concerning Witness and Victim Protection.

This is as mandated in the provisions of Article 6 paragraph (1) letter b of Law Number 31 of 2014, which states:

Victims of gross human rights violations, victims of terrorism crimes, victims of human trafficking crimes, victims of torture crimes, victims of sexual violence crimes, and victims of severe persecution, in addition to the rights referred to in Article 5, are also entitled to:

Point 1 concerning psychosocial and psychological rehabilitation assistance.

A total of 22 victims participated in this training for 3 (three) days, namely 23, 24, and 25 November 2020, at the Bali Governor’s Office Hall, Jalan Basuki Rahmat Number 1, Denpasar City. This entrepreneurship training is part of the recovery process for victims, specifically to equip them with skills to reintegrate into society. Furthermore, the training participants are expected to become inspiration for the community in driving microeconomic growth through small businesses, particularly in the culinary and beauty sectors.

Assistant for Government Affairs and People’s Welfare, Regional Secretariat of Bali Province, I Gede Indra Dewa Putra, explained that beauty and culinary skills training was chosen because the market share in Bali has not declined.

I Gede Indra said, “In my opinion, the market share cannot possibly decline. I think in Bali, these two skills are highly needed and have great prospects. People need them — good, polished, and neat appearances.”

Meanwhile, Ahmad Fanani Rosyidi, YIIM Program Manager, said, “We are proud to be involved in this entrepreneurship training. We hope this training brings a positive impact on the recovery of victims and victims’ families, especially victims of terrorism crimes, and hopefully becomes a model for victim empowerment in other regions.”

On the same occasion, Dr. Hasto Atmojo Suroyo, Chairperson of LPSK, said, “During the 2019–2020 period, there were 352 crime victims who received psychosocial services.”

Hasto added, “If a crime victim happens to be a family head who has passed away, there will certainly be an economic shock for the victim’s family. Therefore, LPSK helps facilitate victims and their families to remain resilient by connecting with local governments. By reaching out to local governments and seeking support from philanthropic institutions, we can help these families survive.”

During the 3 days of training, participants were very enthusiastic in listening to the theory delivered by the trainers from YIIM. The participants were also given the opportunity to ask questions about makeup and culinary arts before practice sessions.

The culinary material taught consisted of sosis solo, village donuts, steamed sponge cake, tiramisu, chicken-filled croquette crackers, marble pudding, and cheese bread pudding.

This training is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 16 on peace, access to justice, and strong institutions. It is also relevant to SDG 1 on poverty prevention and SDG 2 on ending hunger.

Guided by the spirit of “No One Left Behind,” YIIM, LPSK, and the Bali Provincial Government are committed to strengthening victim recovery, one of which is through entrepreneurship training.

May the victims become subjects of development and economic growth that can be felt by all levels of the nation, so that no one is left behind.
