Jakarta – The Indonesian Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK RI), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the Inspirasi Indonesia Membangun Foundation (YIIM) held a social entrepreneurship training in Coffee Barista and Frozen Food “Cooking” skills for individuals under the protection of LPSK.

The beneficiaries of this program are specifically aimed at individuals with backgrounds as survivors and protected persons under the auspices of LPSK RI for terrorism crimes from various regions such as Bali, Poso, Palu, Jakarta, and Surabaya. This program is aligned and in harmony with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) numbers 1, 2, 8, 10, 16, and 17, which have been proclaimed by the government through Presidential Regulation Number 59 of 2017 concerning the Implementation of the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

These 2 (two) skills trainings were organized in 2 stages: online and offline training, with a total of 50 participants. The online training was held on Thursday-Friday, 9-11 December 2021, where the 50 participants consisted of 20 barista training participants and 30 frozen food training participants. One week before the online training began, participants were gathered in a WhatsApp group for the purpose of assessment and briefing so that they would be ready when the training was carried out.

From the online training, participants were selected by the committee to attend the offline training. From this selection process, 30 best participants were chosen to attend the offline training, with 15 participants each for the barista and frozen food trainings over 3 (three) days from 15-17 December 2021, held at the LPSK RI Building, Jalan Raya Bogor KM 24, No 47-49, RT 06/ RW 01, Susukan, Ciracas, East Jakarta, DKI Jakarta.

The barista and frozen food social entrepreneurship training event began with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, 15 December 2021 at the LPSK RI hall, attended directly by the Deputy Chairperson of LPSK RI, Dr. Maneger Nasution, M.H., M.A.; the Chairperson of YIIM, Chrisbiantoro S.H., L.L.M; and the UNODC Indonesia Deputy Country Manager/AML-CFT Advisor, Ms. Zoelda Anderton.

The ceremonial event was opened directly with remarks by Ms. Zoelda, who conveyed: “Survivors of victims of terrorism crimes always face quite heavy challenges, especially during the recovery process. This training is one form of UNODC’s effort to support these Survivors, so they can regain their rights and fulfill their needs independently. We remain unwaveringly committed to supporting the fulfillment of the rights and needs of survivors. We also hope that this training does not stop here, and we await the results of the benefits of this training.”

The next remarks were delivered by Mr. Maneger, who stated: “Thank you to the protected victims who have now become resilient survivors. The participants come from various regions including Bali, Sulawesi, Surabaya, and Jakarta. This training program is part of a series of events for the international day to honor victims of terrorism, in cooperation with UNODC since August 2021. We hope this event serves as the first step in a series of psychosocial activities with UNODC and YIIM to build independent entrepreneurship for the recovery of the victims.”

Finally, Mr. Chrisbiantoro expressed: “One of our flagship programs is community economic empowerment, particularly culinary skills and coffee barista skills. Some of our beneficiaries are the gentlemen and ladies who are survivors and families of survivors under the protection of LPSK. We hope that you all become part of the subjects of development in this country and agents of change within your families. I congratulate you on being selected to participate in this training; make the most of this opportunity.”

Following this training program, LPSK RI, UNODC, and YIIM plan for participants to be equipped with soft skills in entrepreneurship management through further training. The selected survivors will also be given the opportunity for a two-week internship at Kedai Kopi Inspirasi to be trained as professional baristas, as well as receiving capital assistance for barista and frozen food business equipment.
