Jakarta, June 5, 2024 — The Indonesian Inspiration to Build Foundation (YIIM), with support from PT Insight Investment Management, held a dissemination webinar and book launch titled “Youth for Climate Action: Best Practices in Youth Advocacy for Climate Change”. This event was the culmination of a series of youth advocacy activities that have been conducted in Bandung since February 2024, coinciding with World Environment Day. The webinar was accessible via the YouTube link.

In February, YIIM collaborated with U-Report Indonesia and the IBU Foundation to organize advocacy training aimed at equipping young people with the skills and knowledge needed to support climate and humanitarian action. In addition to the training, the program also provided an opportunity for youth-led organizations to submit advocacy plans and receive funding of two million rupiah.

During the March-April 2024 period, these organizations implemented their advocacy programs focusing on three key themes: disaster preparedness, waste management, and raising awareness of the climate crisis. This webinar aimed to disseminate the results of the actions taken, share experiences, and outline effective best practices in advocating for climate change issues. It is expected to provide guidance for similar future initiatives, build stronger communities, and expand collaborative networks.

The launch of the book “Youth for Climate Action: Best Practices in Youth Advocacy for Climate Change” aims to document the entire program process and outcomes, provide long-term reference material, and encourage more concrete action in voicing climate and humanitarian issues. The book presents various strategies and best practices discovered during the program implementation, which can serve as a guide for other young people in environmental advocacy. The webinar featured Ikrom Mustofa, founder of the Smart Climate Generation Foundation, who delivered a presentation on the introduction to climate change and its impacts on children and youth. Additionally, Salma Fauzani, a young advocate representing one of the organizations selected in the advocacy action, shared her story about the formation of her organization, the challenges faced, and the best practices discovered during the implementation phase.

Through this event, YIIM hopes to create a larger and more diverse movement in addressing climate change and disasters through collaboration and the sharing of best practices undertaken by young people. Strong collaboration and comprehensive documentation are expected to enhance the credibility of the program, motivate further support from the community, and invite more people to participate in this movement.
